The Egyptian Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has recently been implementing a series of temporary incentive measures to attract shipping companies back to the Suez Canal following the easing of the Red Sea situation. As of now, while the SCA has not adjusted its base rates, it has introduced discount incentives for specific vessel types and extended the validity of previously issued rebate notices. A significant measure in November was the extension of the validity of previously issued rebate notices until June 30, 2026, providing shipping companies with longer-term predictability. The notices apply to the following vessel types: bulk carriers, LNG/LPG carriers, VLCCs and crude oil tankers, oil product tankers, chemical and other liquid bulk carriers, container ships, and vehicle carriers.

The calculation of Suez Canal fees is based on two core elements: the billing benchmark and the currency conversion mechanism.

Suez Canal Net Tonnage (SCNT) is the official billing basis for the SCA. Unlike the common Deadweight Tonnage (DWT), SCNT is calculated based on comprehensive parameters such as vessel dimensions, cargo hold capacity, and deck equipment, making it more aligned with the canal's transit costs.  

苏伊士净吨位（SCNT） 是SCA的官方计费依据，与常见的载重吨（DWT）不同，SCNT根据船舶主尺度、货舱容积及甲板设备等参数综合计算，更贴合运河通航成本。

The SCA uses Special Drawing Rights (SDR) as the settlement unit. The SDR is issued by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and its exchange rate against the US dollar fluctuates daily.  

SCA采用特别提款权（SDR） 作为结算单位，SDR由国际货币基金组织发行，其兑美元汇率每日波动。

The fee calculation requires three steps: "Base Rate × SCNT → Convert to SDR → Then Convert to US Dollars." In practice, the SCA updates the exchange rate on its official website at 9 AM daily, and shipping companies can obtain the latest quotations through officially certified agents.

Mandatory Surcharges: These include pilotage fees, mooring, and lighting service fees. The SCA announced that starting May 1, an additional fee of $5,000 will be levied on vessels that refuse or are unable to accept mooring services. Under the new regulations, a fixed fee of $3,500 for mooring and lighting services will be charged to each transiting vessel.
