On July 31st, local time, US President Trump signed an executive order on " reciprocal tariffs , " placing Brazil under a 10% tariff. This order, with a seven-day wind-down period, took effect at midnight on August 7th. The 10% tariff imposed in this order will be added to the 40 % additional tariff imposed on Brazil in an executive order signed by Trump on July 30th. This will result in a 50% surcharge on some Brazilian goods exported to the US, on top of the most-favored-nation (MFN) base rate.
