Italian labour unions COBAS and USB plan several strikes in April and May, potentially disrupting cargo and passenger transport by rail and Genoa Port operations.COBAS union members will strike for 24 hours on Friday, 11 April.

Genoa port operators expect this to impact port operations, including gate access and container transport to and from the port.Impact on vessel operations is expected to be minimal.Similarly, the USB union will hold a strike from 21:00 on 5 May until 21:00 on 6 May. Rail operations run by USB members will be halted during this period.

Koper Port Faces Congestion Due to Rail Capacity Issues

Due to ongoing closures and limited capacities within Slovenia, the local railway infrastructure manager, has announced necessary adjustments to the train departure schedules. These changes include a daily schedule review and a reduction in the number of trains operating, which eventually impacts the rail transport of containers to and from the Port of Koper.

According to an advisory, 11 pairs of trains have been cancelled last week, leading to significant delays in rail services.Data shows that the 7-day average vessel waiting time at Koper Port has been approximately 2.5 days. Dwell times for containers at the port are currently 3 days for imports and 8 days for exports.

Guatemalan Port Congestion

Increased imports and exports have severely affected operations at Guatemalan Atlantic ports. Congestion and slow operations at Guatemala's Santo Tomas de Castilla Port have caused vessel arrival and departure delays.

The port's situation has also impacted land transport, with export equipment entry restricted due to throughput issues and slow import pickup flows. Guatemala's major ports include Santo Tomas de Castilla, San Jose, Puerto Quetzal, Livingston, Puerto Barrios, and Santo Tomas de Castilla.

Auckland: The Port of Auckland updated its N4 Terminal Operating System last weekend and  temporarily closed the terminal from Friday, 11 April, to Sunday, 13 April. Receival and Delivery operations would be suspended from 15:00 on Friday, 11 April. No new vessel operations took place from 07:00 on Friday, 11 April. Full operations are expected to resume at 15:00 on Sunday, 13 April. Demurrage and export storage charges will be suspended during the days of closure.

Tauranga: Winds halted port operations for 12 hours last week, reducing the buffer for the vessel lineup. Yard utilisation is near full capacity for both dry and reefer containers, and the port cannot accommodate early acceptance. The majority of vessels are leaving and departing off-window.
