President Xi Went to Investigate the Port in the Rain

The port has always played an important role for the president Xi Jinping. The president has been to so many important ports in his visits to both home and abroad including Wuhan New Port, Chongqing Orchard Port, Guangxi Tieshan Port, Shanghai Yangshan Port, Tianjin Port, Colombo Port of Sri Lanka, Piraeus Port of Greece ...

Now, there is another addition to this long list- Ningbo Zhoushan Port.

On 23th of February, Xi proposed to stabilize foreign trade and investment at the deployment meeting on the overall promotion of the prevention and control of the new COVID-19 epidemics and of economic and social development To ensure the smooth operation of foreign trade industry chain and supply chain, and the international market share can be maintained.

On March 27, when he presided over the meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, he stressed that international economic and trade cooperation should be strengthened, and the construction of international logistics supply chain system should be accelerated. So that the international freight could flow fluently.

On March 29, Xi Jinping went to Zhejiang for investigation. This was the fourth investigation that our general secretary has launched since the outbreak of prevention and control war against COVID-19 started.

This time, the general secretary went to the world's largest port to make an field visit, which was a clear signal to declare the determination to jointly maintain the stability of the supply chain of global industrial chain.

This was Xi Jinping's fifth visit to Zhejiang since the opening of the 18th CPC National Congress.

On the afternoon of 29th, the first stop of Xi Jinping's trip to Zhejiang was the Chuanshan Port Area of Ningbo Zhoushan Port.

Through the cameras, we can see that the general secretary was carrying an umbrella in the rain.

Ningbo Zhoushan Port is a "marriage" brokered by Xi. As early as January 2003, Xi, then work as the secretary of Zhejiang province, had said “to speed up the integration process of Zhoushan Port of Ningbo” at his first investigation to Zhoushan. On Dec. 20^th of 2005, he said that port construction would be a highlight in Zhejiang's economic development and the focus of port construction depend on the integration of Ningbo Zhoushan Port at the openning ceremony of the Ningbo- Zhoushan Management Committee .

In Ningbo Zhoushan Port, Xi Jinping learned about the resumption of work and production in the port.

Under the impact of the epidemic, Ningbo Zhoushan Port handled 163 million tons of goods in the first two months of this year, which was over 98% of the same period last year. There were 4.06 million TEUs of container handled returning to nearly 90% of the same period last year.

Ports are barometers of economic development. According to data that more than 90% of China's foreign trade goods were transported through ports. Among the top 10 cargo and container throughput port, there are 7 ports belonging to China. This shows that the ports play an extremely important role in promoting orderly resumption of work and production, and in maintaining the stability of the supply chain of the global industrial chain.

Last year, 1.12-billion-ton cargo have been handled in Ningbo Zhoushan Port, which ranked first in the world for 11 consecutive years. The handling capacity of container was 27.535 million TEUs firmly ranking the third largest port in the world.

风雨同行：习近平到港口 雨中走码头

港口，在习近平心中始终有着沉甸甸的分量。武汉新港、重庆果园港、广西铁山港、上海洋山港、天津港、斯里兰卡科伦坡港、希腊比雷埃夫斯港……在国内考察和国外出访途中，他曾登临或连线这些重要港口。

如今，这份长长的名单又增加了一个——宁波舟山港.

2月23日，习近平在统筹推进新冠肺炎疫情防控和经济社会发展工作部署会议上提出，要稳住外贸外资基本盘。要保障外贸产业链、供应链畅通运转，稳定国际市场份额。

3月27日，他在主持召开中共中央政治局会议时强调，要加强国际经贸合作，加快国际物流供应链体系建设，保障国际货运畅通。

3月29日，习近平赴浙江考察调研。这是疫情防控阻击战打响以来总书记第四次考察调研。

这次，总书记赴世界第一大港口实地考察，正是宣示了共同维护全球产业链供应链稳定的鲜明信号。

这是习近平自党的十八大以来第五次赴浙江。

29日下午，习近平此次浙江之行的第一站，是宁波舟山港的穿山港区。

透过镜头可以看到，总书记是冒雨撑伞考察。

这一幕恰似七年前他在武汉新港考察。

宁波舟山港是由习近平牵线“联姻”。早在2003年1月，时任浙江省委书记的习近平第一次到舟山调研，就提出要“加快宁波舟山港一体化进程”。2005年12月20日，他在宁波－舟山港管委会挂牌仪式上说，港口建设将是浙江省经济发展中的大手笔，港口建设的重点在宁波、舟山港一体化。

在宁波舟山港，习近平实地了解港口复工复产情况。

在疫情冲击之下，宁波舟山港今年前2个月累计完成货物吞吐量1.63亿吨，为去年同期的98%以上；完成集装箱吞吐量406万标准箱，恢复到去年同期的近九成。

港口是经济发展的晴雨表。数据显示，我国90%以上的外贸货物通过港口进出。在全球港口货物吞吐量和集装箱吞吐量排名前10名的港口中，中国港口均占有7席。由此可见，港口在有序推进复工复产和维护全球产业链供应链稳定等方面都扮演着极其重要的角色。

去年，宁波舟山港完成货物吞吐量11.2亿吨，连续11年位居世界第一，集装箱吞吐量2753.5万标箱，稳居全球港口第三位。
