On July 30th, the world's largest super-large container ship "Ever Ace" of 24000TEU built by Samsung Heavy Industries for Evergreen Shipping made its maiden voyage to Qingdao Port, a port in Shandong Province, China.
"Ever Ace" is the first ship in a series of 12 class A container ships ordered by Evergreen Shipping in China and South Korea shipyards. It was built by Samsung Heavy Industries of South Korea and officially delivered on July 29th. The container capacity of "Ever Ace" reached 23,992TEU, surpassing the Algeciras ship (23,964TEU) delivered by Korean HMM last year, and once again setting a new record for the largest container ship in the world.
It is reported that the "Ever Ace" will be put into the European boutique route of Qingdao Port, Shandong, to comprehensively upgrade the capacity and shipping space of the Ocean Alliance European route to which Evergreen Shipping belongs, and at the same time inject stronger energy into Shandong Port to speed up the construction of a world-class ocean port.
On the same day, Qingdao Port greeted the "Ever Ace" with the highest courtesy "Watergate Ceremony". It is reported that the total export capacity of the ship in Qingdao Port is 6200TEU, including 4533TEU heavy containers. Compared with the maiden voyage of Ever Golden, the first 20000TEU ship of Evergreen in November 2018, the total loading capacity increased by 368% from 1353TEU, of which the total container capacity increased by 239%, refreshing the loading capacity of Evergreen's maiden voyage in Qingdao Port.
As early as before the outbreak of the epidemic, Evergreen Shipping seized the opportunity ahead of time. In September 2019, it ordered 10 Evergreen Class A container ships in Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Company, Jiangnan Shipyard and Samsung Heavy Industries. This series of ships has a total length of 400 meters, a width of 61 meters and a draft of 16 meters. Among them, six ships built by Samsung Heavy Industry have a container capacity of 23,992TEU, and two ships built by Hudong-Zhonghua and Jiangnan Shipyard have a container capacity of 23,888TEU respectively. In June this year, Evergreen Shipping ordered another two 23888TEU container ships in Hudong-Zhonghua, expanding the number of Class A container ships to 12.
After the delivery of "Ever Ace", it is expected that Evergreen Shipping will welcome another three Class A container ships this year, and all these four new ships will be put into operation on the European line, successfully catching up with the current era of high freight rates on the European line.
Xie Huiquan, general manager of Evergreen Shipping, said recently that Evergreen used 14000TEU container ships on the European line before, which was at a disadvantage. However, four 24000TEU super-large container ships will be delivered this year, and the operating cost of large ships is relatively low. In the future, Evergreen’s competitiveness on the European line will be unstoppable.
According to Alphaliner, Evergreen Shipping's fleet currently operates 202 ships with a total capacity of about 1.385 million TEU, including 116 self-owned ships and 86 chartered ships, ranking seventh in the world in terms of capacity. In addition, Evergreen Shipping has 70 new ships under construction, with a total capacity of about 688,000 TEU, and hand-held order accounts for 49.6% of the existing fleet.
According to eworldship.com, Evergreen Shipping expects 33 new ships to be put into operation this year, and the total capacity will increase by 263,900 TEU (18%), of which 14 ships have been delivered in the first half of the year with a total of 98,000 TEU and 19 ships to be delivered in the second half of the year with a total of 165,900 TEU. After all the 70 new ships under construction in the hand-held order are delivered, Evergreen Shipping Fleet will surpass Japan Ocean Network Express (ONE) and become the sixth largest container shipping company in the world.
