DP World Acquire of 60% Shares of Korean Freight Forwarder

DP World, the global port operator, will increase its business in freight forwarding and logistics area by acquiring 60% of the equity of Unico Logistics which is a Korean freight forwarding company. The amount has not been disclosed.

DP World said that it has begun to seek approval from the regulatory authorities and expects the transaction to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year.

Unico logistics is one of the largest freight forwarders in Korea, especially focusing on the vertical field of automobiles, and it is also the main user of Asia-Europe railway service.

According to reports, DP World, headquartered in Dubai, is also negotiating with Transworld, an Indian multinational company, to acquire shryas Shipping which is the subsidiary regional operator in mainland China. After acquiring Unifeeder and Feedertech, DP World will contribute to its rapidly growing global regional network.

Meanwhile, the company announced the throughput data for half a year in this morning. In the first half of this year, the total throughput of the company was 33.9 million TEUs, which is down 5.3% year-on-year. However, as far as the flagship Jebel Ali Terminal in the United Arab Emirates, the throughput in the first half of this year decreased by 6.8% year by year,which is 6.7 million TEUs, "due to Covid-19 and the loss of goods with lower profit margins".
